Bergamo - 2 Cities in 1

This City is traditionally divided into 2 parts: Bergamo Alta (Upper Bergamo - the ancient side) and Lower Bergamo. North-eastern than Milan, can be reached by highway or with a 50 minute train travel.

The Upper Town is surrounded by the Venetian Walls, part of the UNESCO Heritage sites. Walking along gates, walls, narrow medieval lanes, is the best way to discover Bergamo Alta.

The main point of interest of the Upper Town are:

Piazza Vecchia (Old Square) with the main old civic buildings.

Around Piazza Vecchia Saint Alexander Cathedral and Greater Saint Mary Basilica.

Colleoni Road is the hearth of the Upper Town and connects Piazza Vecchia with the medieval Piazza della Cittadella.

The Lower Town was mainly built in the XVII and XVIII Century. Restored at the beginning of XX Century around the main avenue called "Sentierone" (big path).
